Course: DES112 UI/UX Design Principles & Practices

Project Type: UI/UX Design

Tools: Figma, Illustrator, Procreate

PaperPal is a DES112 UI/UX Design Project that combines the nostalgia and warmth of traditional letter writing with the accessibility of the digital world. It is a penpal service designed to help older adults combat social isolation by making meaningful connections with fellow older adults more accessible.

The Goal: The main problem from my initial research was that the elderly’s social life dwindles as they get older due to health, limited mobility, financial hardships, or inaccessibility of typical social spaces. This prompted me to create a penpal service for the elderly through UI/UX to combat this issue, taking into consideration about how older people navigate tech as well as their preferences.

Process

From my research, warm tones were preferred by older people, leading me to these combinations that still allowed for enough color contrast for readability.

My decision to choose this combination of typefaces ensures readability for older people while still maintanining the handwritten and nostalgia aspect of letter-writing.

For the information website, I started with a draft of the layout and sketched out the visuals using Procreate.

For the interactive mobile app, I started with task flows and wireframes to map out the user’s experience.
